Mephisto is the the master of the magical key. His keys, when attached to living organisms, turn them into killing machines.

Appearance[]

Mephisto appears as a green man with white, pupil-less eyes and goblin-like ears. His head is covered in what seem to be runic symbols. He wears a red cape adorned with similar symbols, with his main outfit appearing to be all black, and has brown shoes.

Personality[]

Mephisto is cold, calculating and cruel. His number one goal is world domination, and to achieve this he has made slaves out of countless people and animals by using his magical keys to transform them into his puppets.

Story[]

While encountered relatively sparsely throughout the game, Mephisto is the mastermind behind all of the game's events, and is responsible for a majority of the creatures and bosses that Flint faces.

Mephisto is first mentioned by the Zeppo's crew aboard the Airship at the beginning, forming an immediate connection between him and the strange wind-up mechanical soldiers that Flint fights.

His first appearance is at Mt. Sparrowhawk, the Airship's crash site. Mephisto and some of his minions come here to look for the Arcanum Key which was lost after the ship went down. Encountering Flint and Alexia, he identifies Alexia as royalty and sees her connection to the Children of the Crown. After this, he transforms his cat Pandora into a monster to kill them, and leaves as Flint takes on the crazed feline.

Mephisto is next seen at Peurto Medusa, talking with Milena, the leader of the pirates, and blaming her and her pirates for his recent failures. Shortly after, he captures Princess Alexia and "escorts" her to the royal Varuna City, while Flint is thrown into the ocean.

Much later, when Flint recovers the 3 artifacts for Baron Diaz and returns to Varuna City, Mephisto appears to inform them that there is still one artifact left to retrieve. At this point he also reveals that he is incredibly old, which together with his ancient knowledge suggests his plans have been in motion for potentially hundreds of years.

When Flint returns with the final artifact and finishes setting them all up, Mephisto turns on the Baron, revealing that the artifacts do not lead to any treasure, but are in fact part of a mechanism that he created long ago to locate the precise "nerve-center" of the planet, where he will insert his masterpiece, the Star Key, and transform the entire planet itself into one of his monstrous puppets. With this knowledge, he transforms the Baron and flees, leaving him and Flint to fight while the others escape.

Soon after, Flint boards the Star Key together with Zeppo, though they are almost immediately separated. Eventually Flint finds Zeppo, captured by Mephisto, who transforms him into a monster to slow Flint down. After a humorous post-battle scene, Flint pursues Mephisto to the core of the Star Key, where he finishes the warlock off and destroys the central control mechanism in the process, causing the Star Key to plummet into the ocean and explode, ending Mephisto's plans once and for all.
